The short answer
Yes, a child can use an Apple Watch in the UAE without their own iPhone, through Family Setup. It is the most capable option for a child and the most demanding to run: a cellular watch, a carrier plan and a charge every day.
How Family Setup works here
Family Setup launched in the UAE in May 2023. A parent sets up the watch from their own iPhone, and the child can then use it without an iPhone of their own. The parent manages contacts, Screen Time and location from their phone, and the child's watch needs its own Apple ID.
Cellular service in the UAE is currently available through e&, formerly Etisalat, according to Apple's UAE announcement. We found no du support.
What you need
e&'s Apple Watch for Your Kids page sets out the requirements:
- An existing e& customer with an active prepaid or postpaid account.
- Your Emirates ID, required when you activate at an e& store.
- An Apple Watch Series 4 or later with cellular, or an Apple Watch SE with cellular, running watchOS 7 or later.
A cellular plan is not required for setup, but you need one for calling and location. e& does not state the monthly price or an activation fee on that page, so ask in store before you commit.
What it costs
An Apple Watch SE 3 is AED 1,119 at Apple UAE as of September 2026. On top of that you pay for the e& cellular plan, which recurs, plus a spare case or charger if you want one.
The limits that matter
Apple quotes 18 hours of battery, and 14 hours of daily use under Family Setup. That means a charge every day. In practice the watch charges overnight, so it does not measure sleep.
It is also a full smartwatch with apps, notifications and a display the child will look at. That is the point for some families and a problem for others. Who it suits
Choose the Apple Watch if your family uses iPhone, you need calling and location for your child, and you will really charge it daily.
Choose Halo Lytt if your child is supervised during the day, you want to reduce screens rather than add one, and you care about sleep. It has no calling, location, SIM or GPS, so if location drives the purchase it is not the answer.
